The localities forming Girişu de Criş have been historically testified since the 13-14th centuries: Girişu de Criş – 1221, Tărian – 1341.
Girişu de Criş is located in the western part of Bihor County, within the North-Western Development Region. It is situated in the central-western part of Oradea Metropolitan Area, neighbouring Sîntandrei şi Borş to the east, Nojorid to the south, Toboliu to the west and Hungary to the north.
The approximate distance between Girişu de Criş and Oradea is of 12 km, while between the locality and the Hungarian border it is of about 3 km.
Girişu de Criş has two villages under its administration: Tărian and Girişu de Criş. These were built along the county road DJ797, being located at about 0.5 km from one another.
Access to Girişu de Criş is by road DJ 797, which connects the city of Oradea to Inand, or by railway, namely the main rail line 300: Bucureşti Nord - Braşov - Sighişoara - Teiuş - Războieni - Cluj Napoca - Oradea – Girişu de Criş.
Girişu de Criş is situated about 15.5 km from Oradea International Airport. Girişu de Criş has a total surface of 45,62 km2, which implies 6% of the total Oradea Metropolitan Area surface. Its two composing villages have about the same dimension in terms of their size.
Girişu de Criş is situated in the lower part of Câmpia Crişurilor (The Cris rivers Plain). The low plain is the result of the accumulation and erosion by divagation of the water network coming from the higher region of Bihor county, mainly Crişul Repede. The rivers that drain the plain are shallow and not terraced. The average altitude in Câmpia Crişurilor low area is of 110 m.
The local climate is under western influence, which transports moist, oceanic air masses. The annual air temperature mean is between 10°-11°C, values that are specific to plain areas. The average annual precipitation is between 600 - 700 mm/year. The most frequent winds come from the south, west or north.
The main resource of the locality is agricultural land. There are also the water resources, Girişu de Criş being crossed by Crişul Repede river. Its terraces are suitable for extracting sand and gravel.
As for nature reserves, Girişu de Criş comprises the Natura 2000 site ROSCI0104 Lunca Inferioară a Crişului Repede (Inferior Meadow of Crişului Repede river). The site also covers some of the neighbouring localities: Borş, Sîntandrei and Oradea municipality. The site is known for the Salix alba and Populus alba galleries, being formed of rivers and lakes 36%, cultivated land 26% (plough-land), pastures 21%, marshes and bogs 15% and other plough-land 2%. Among the most important species found in the inferior meadow of Crişul Repede are: the Great Bittern, the White-Finned Gudgeon, the Bitterling, Cobitis bulgarica, the spined loach, the European perch, the asper, the Danube streber and Danube gudgeon etc.
On the territory of Girişu de Criş is also the special protection area ROSPA0103 Valea Alceului, home to species like the Red-footed Falcon (Falco vespertinus), Montagu’s harrier (Circus pygargus), the Lesser Grey Shrike (Lanius minor), the Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) and the Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus).
